Camp Two Day Two

The campers woke early for their first full day of basketball. After a healthy breakfast they were led through stations where the players pushed themselves to develop new skills. The free-throw competition took place after lunch and in the junior section Aoife Tiernan was the champion while Killian Rudden was the overall senior winner. After dinner many highly anticipated league matches will take place, followed later by some friendly activities such as rounders and a soccer game which will hopefully provide a few more thrills than last nights World Cup Final. The camp was described as “Good fun and educational” by Éanna Mernagh, an accurate description by Éanna for sure.

Camp Two Day One

Camp started smoothly this week with fewer campers coming than week one. As a result, the players are due to gain more from the services of the camp coaching staff. After registration there were 3 on 3 and 4 on 4 matches to allow the coaches to get a grasp of the standard of players and to then set up teams. In the evening campers and coaches alike flocked to the video room to endure 116 minutes of torture before Spain finally scored in the World Cup Final. The campers went to bed tired after a successful opening day of camp.

Day Two

Breakfast was served at 8am as hungry campers flocked to the dining hall. A vigorous warm up by superleague star Nimah Dwyer got all campers prepared for the day. The first of the camp prizes were secured in the Free Throw competition which took place after lunch. Jack Healy had nerves of steele as he took the senior boys FT crown, followed by the successful Fiona Hiney, Senior Girls. Connaught dominated in the junior section with Ronan McKeown and Sophie Coll taking the top spots. An entertaining evening is expected with the first of the league games and a camp quiz with prizes up for grabs to take place!

After the first of the camp league games a highly entertaining quiz might ensued. Campers had a unexpected surprise when they were woken by the fire alarm after settling down for the night. Fortunately it was just a false alarm yet the campers remained calm and were very helpful to the Gormanston staff by moving out the fire exits in a safe and orderly manner. It was a late night before all were back in their beds for some much needed rest.

National Basketball Camp 2010
Written by Colm Lakes – Camp Helper

Registration went smoothly without incident on the first day of camp. Other than for a few late arrivals (who made great lengths to get to camp!) camp started on time. Camper were given an introduction to the camp staff and welcomed by the camp director Al Marshall. Campers were put straight to work and enjoyed the first camp meal at 5pm. After dinner the camper played some highly competitive matches as the coaches worked on dividing the large group into senior and junior leagues. Later in the evening a hotly contested soccer match took place on the camp grounds while other campers took part in a fun game of rounders. A huge game of “bulldog” ensued which provided a lot of laughs before campers got ready for a good nights sleep. Day one successfully completed.
